Health & Fitness Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY
• Renders professional care to patients and clients of all ages within an assigned area pursuant to the mission, goals, policy, and procedure of Coffee Regional Medical Center.
• Responsibilities are to maintain the safety and well-being of the Wellness Center, including patron questions and concerns, education on proper machine instruction, machine and equipment upkeep, and assistance with any fitness programming which utilize the Wellness Center.
• Secondary, the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Health and Fitness Specialist is expected to direct quality care to all patients in Phase II and Phase III utilizing the Cardiac and/or Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program.
OVERVIEW
• The evaluation is to assure individual performance, departmental goals and organizational goals are aligned. It is designed to support communication between the manager and the employee. Employee perception of their own performance is very important. To maximize the benefit of this process, both the manager and the employee participate in the evaluation process.

B. Education
• High School diploma or GED
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology or related field.
C. Licensure
• ACLS preferred and BLS required.
• Preferred Group Fitness Certification by recognized group fitness association.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
• Below are those tasks, duties, and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the position’s purpose and objectives. Following are the essential functions of the position, along with the corresponding performance standards.
• General Responsibilities
o Communicates appropriately and clearly to supervisor, co-workers, and physicians.
o Takes responsibility for identifying their own learning needs by suggesting, attending, and participating in needed topics for in-service programs.
o Update monthly reports as needed.
o Limits personal phone calls and visits to emergency only.
o Completes annual educational requirements prior to evaluation date.
o Reports to work on time as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
o Attends at least 75% of staff meeting annually.
o Maintain clean work area.
o Collaborates and communicates with customers, physicians, nursing staff/management, visitors, measures by 2 or less validates complaints in 6 months.
• Wellness Center Responsibilities
o Performs physical assessment to determine capacity to exercise.
o Leads group exercise. Provides instructions and demonstrates proper exercise techniques.
o Develop and implement fitness programs through use of Fitlinxx.
o Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
o Manage/Operates: memberships, software, Fitlinxx and spreadsheets.
o Request supplies as needed
• Cardiac Rehabilitation Responsibilities
o Calculates and prepares exercise prescriptions according to patient's physical condition and needs.
o Communicates results of the evaluations and training progress to the primary physician, the patient, and the supervising physician.
o Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensure patient confidentiality.
o Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
o Recognizes basic arrhythmias on telemetry and reacts appropriately.
o Monitors blood pressure, heart rate, perceived clinical status, and workload of each patient taking into consideration the age of the patient.
o Assist with exercise stress test, as needed.
o Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the Standard of Care for patient's age.
o Assess and reassesses pain management techniques utilized. Educate the patient and family regarding pain management.
o Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
o Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs.
